No Exit

Mirjam Kuitenbrouwer’s works create environments that engages the spectator to become the performer herself. Her video installation NO EXIT invites the visitor to sit down on a swing while watching a girl flying back and forth on the exact same swing in the video projection across the room. Performance thus is not so much conceived as a one-time theatrical event but rather as a possibility of action and signification that raises questions beyond those of authenticity and originality.
